Gastrolobium Brown Butterfly is a spectacular semi-prostrate shrub named for its unique foliage of dark bronze leaves with bright green edges. Brown Butterfly produces masses of vivid red pea flowers during the summer months that attract nectar-feeding birds to the garden. It is a ground-covering plant that is great for embankments, as a feature plant spilling over retaining walls or as a potted plant. Give it a light trim after a heavy flush of flowers and it will continue to thicken up as a ground cover.

Camellia sasquana Paradise Green Tea is a large, slow-growing evergreen shrub with leathery, dark green glossy leaves. Fragrant white blooms adorned with golden stamens appear in autumn and early winter, providing a vital food source for bees. Paradise Green Tea is not only a stunning plant - its young leaves can be harvested to make green tea. The leaves are quickly steamed, and then heated and rolled before drying. The rapid steaming process preserves the colour as well as the large amount of antioxidants. However, if tea is not your thing, plant this lovely camellia to create a beautiful hedge that can be grown to any height and it will enhance the surroundings with its smooth, evergreen leaves and pretty flowers. Tea plants also grow well in large pots or containers, but they still require acidic, well-mulched, and well-drained soil.

Soil: Moist, humus-rich soil.
Conditions: In most home gardens, the best position is in dappled shade, as it provides some protection from frosts and the hot sun, which can burn the new leaves.
Size: Height 4m x width 3m (In commercial production, the height is kept at less than 1m for easy harvesting).

Bearing masses of cascading salmon pink bell-shaped flowers in late spring and early summer, Brachychiton Magenta Bells makes an ideal specimen or feature tree. This spectacular native tree is an excellent shade tree with its dense glossy-green canopy, and as a grafted tree it is more compact in size which makes it highly suitable for domestic landscapes. Fertilise with a low-phosphorous fertiliser annually.

Fraxinus griffithii, or Evergreen Ash, is an attractive, quick-growing ornamental tree with dark green smooth leaflets with silver-coloured undersides. Masses of flowers in large loose, fragrant panicles appear in spring to autumn - covering most of the tree. The blooms are followed by white " helicopter" seeds that hang on the tree to mid-winter. This species is great for use as a small feature tree in gardens, parks or paddocks, as an avenue planting or as a screen or windbreak

Acmena Orange Crush is a psyllid-resistant variety of Lilly Pilly with spectacular orange-coloured new growth. The glossy foliage slowly matures to a mid-green. Fluffy white flowers appear in spring, followed by purple berries - both are a food source and habitat for native wildlife. Suitable for screens, hedging and topiary, a naturally dense compact growth habit means pruning is not usually required.

Soil: Well-drained soil.
Conditions: Full sun to part shade. Adaptable to most Australian climates - protect from frost.

A rich dark fast-growing shrub, Buddleja Royal Red is loaded with vibrant purple-pink-red honey-scented flowers from summer to autumn. Butterflies can't resist them, birds and bees will pay a visit to feed on the nectar too! Plant this beautiful shrub in cottage gardens, wildlife gardens, and in mixed beds. Prune hard after flowering in frost-free areas or in spring in cold ones to maintain compact growth and heavier flowering. Fertilise in spring using a slow-release fertiliser, and give an extra boost during the summer heat using eco-seaweed.
