Pycnosorus Billy Buttons in full flower is a sight to behold in the garden. The dense ground cover exhibits sculptural golden-yellow globes of bloom on long stems that rise above soft, narrow grey foliage. Flowering from spring to summer, the blooms are superb as cut flowers and for drying. Billy Buttons is at home in cottage gardens, rockeries or as a foreground plant in native gardens.

Scleranthus biflorus Lime Lava is a distinctive, low-growing Australian native groundcover that forms vibrant, lime-green cushions with a soft, moss-like appearance. An absolute ripper of a shrub, Leptospermum Piccolo is an extremely hardy Australian native. This colourful and compact shrub is a great addition to courtyards and small gardens as it is positively smothered in crimson-coloured flowers during spring. The blooms attract a wide variety of native insects, which in turn, attract native birds and other wildlife. Light pruning will keep it compact and increase the flower display, and feed with a slow-release native fertiliser in spring or late summer. As with most tea trees, Piccolo is a terrific fast-growing screening plant with its naturally dense growth habit.

Thymus serpyllum Pink, or Creeping Pink Thyme is a low-growing and strongly scented perennial with dense foliage and a compact growth habit. One of the most intriguing modern uses of creeping thyme is as a lawn substitute. Creeping Pink Thyme helps to support native bees thanks to its prolific nectar-rich flowers and its ability to withstand light foot traffic. It is a beautiful Mediterranean herb suited to rockeries, border edges and container gardens, and it can even thrive in balcony gardens. Thyme can be used at all stages of cooking: early for strong flavour in soups and casseroles, late for stir fries and salads or as a garnish for any savoury dish.

Callistemon Purple Cloud is a beautifully shaped Australian native shrub known for its vibrant purple bottlebrush flowers that appear from spring through summer. The blooms are rich in nectar, attracting birds, beneficial insects and small mammals, making it a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Its naturally compact growth makes it ideal for narrow screens or small hedges, while unpruned plants develop a graceful, slightly weeping small tree form. Pruning after flowering helps maintain a dense, compact shape and encourages fresh growth and repeat flowering. It responds well to shaping, making it an excellent option for hedging or screening, but can also be left unpruned to develop its natural, softly weeping habit.
