Hardenbergia violacea Happy Wanderer is a very pretty Australian native evergreen climber or groundcover. It certainly lives up to its name as it will happily scramble through other shrubs, and grow on fences with support and training. Happy Wanderer displays masses of royal purple flowers over winter and spring and is a source of colour and joy in the garden. Happy Wanderer is particularly suited to large pots, covering fences, pergolas or trained on a trellis. Prune well after flowering period to promote new growth.

Boston Ivy, Parthenocissus tricuspidata, is a hardy deciduous climber with outstanding foliage that emerges coppery red in the spring and ages to green as the foliage matures. When autumn arrives, the foliage becomes a blaze of magnificent sunset colours. Excellent for providing summer shade but letting valuable sunlight through in winter as the leaves drop. Best not grown on trees as the dense foliage can stunt tree growth and create long term damage. Prune back as required with heavy pruning in winter. Regular light pruning will keep the plant in good shape.

A vigorous climbing form of Hardebergia, Edna Walling "Snow White" delights the eye with light green leaves and pure white sprays of flowers from mid-winter through spring. This plant makes a great ground cover and looks great spilling over banks, but will also climb vigorously if given something to support it. Prune Snow White to keep it to the desired size.

Conditions: Flowers best in full sun. Adaptable to most Australian climates. Tolerates light to medium frost.

Hardenbergia Free n Easy is a vigorous climbing or trailing plant with glossy, mid-green, oval leaves and long sprays of white, pea flowers suffused with lavender pink, late autumn, winter, and early spring. This plant would make a great ground cover but will climb as well with a little support. Prune to shape when needed and pruning after flowering is recommended.

Trachelospermum jasminoides Tricolour is a slow-growing groundcover version of the Star Jasmine. It has lovely, variegated leaves ranging from cream to pink to green, with flecks of colour randomly scattered. In spring, beautiful starry white flowers appear with the unmistakable jasmine fragrance. It can be used as a border plant for containers or as a groundcover or cascading plant down embankments.

Conditions: Semi-shaded position. Drought and coastal tolerant.

Rubus fruticosus Thornless Blackberry is a gardener’s delight — vigorous, productive, and easy to harvest without the worry of sharp spines. Wisteria floribunda carnea, or Pink Japanese Wisteria, is a stunning deciduous climber with mid-green foliage that covers the vine from spring to autumn. The glorious wisteria produces stupendous pendulous racemes of perfumed, pale pink/ mauve flowers up to 1m long in spring, often before the foliage appears. The wisteria is a vigorous, deciduous plant that is ideal for climbing up walls, fences, arches or pergolas where robust support is provided. Regular pruning is recommended during summer to control growth and encourage the development of many short spurs that will produce more flowers in spring.
