Deciduous Trees and Shrubs

Acer palmatum Osakazuki is a highly regarded Japanese Maple known for its elegant form and exceptional autumn colour. This deciduous tree develops a naturally open, graceful growth habit with plentiful bright green foliage throughout spring and summer. In autumn, the leaves transform into brilliant shades of glowing orange and fiery crimson, creating one of the most striking seasonal displays among Japanese maples. Small clusters of delicate red flowers appear in spring, adding subtle seasonal interest before the lush foliage fully develops. With its moderate size and refined branching structure, Osakazuki makes an excellent feature or shade tree for smaller gardens. It also provides beautiful contrast when planted among darker foliage plants or evergreens in the landscape.

Conditions: Full sun to afternoon shade. Protect from midday heat and drying winds in warmer climates. Frost hardy.

Rubus Thornless Blackberry is a gardener’s delight — vigorous, productive, and easy to harvest without the worry of sharp spines. These hardy berry shrubs produce masses of sweet, dark purple to black fruits through mid to late summer, following a charming display of white or pink blossoms in late spring. The glossy, dark green foliage forms a dense, bushy plant that makes an attractive addition to the edible garden or a soft feature along a fence or trellis. For best results, prune during winter or early spring to remove old, weak, or damaged canes and maintain a tidy, open shape. Soil: Well-drained fertile soil. If your soil is heavy or prone to poor drainage, consider planting in raised beds or mounds to ensure good water flow around the roots
Conditions: Full sun. While they are hardy in most climates, you may need to protect them from harsh winter winds in colder areas by mulching heavily or using row covers during the coldest months.

The Pink Flowering Dogwood is regarded as one of the best of the smaller spring-flowering trees. In early to mid-spring, sensational pink to pale pink flowers appear all over the dogwood tree. In summer, its layered canopy clad with slightly twisted, mid-green leaves, provides welcome shade and visual appeal. In autumn the foliage turns brilliant red before dropping its leaves. This small ornamental tree makes an excellent specimen tree and is well suited to smaller gardens. Prune when planting to encourage new growth, and before winter. The dogwood has moderate water requirements once established and will benefit from deep soaking in the peak of summer.

Soil: It prefers humus-rich, well-draining soil with an application of good quality fertiliser in spring.
Conditions: Full sun. Plant in an area protected from strong winds. Moderately frost tolerant.

Mikawa Yatsubusa is a stunning dwarf Japanese maple with marvellous structure, colour and dense foliage. This deciduous tree displays fresh-green foliage in summer and glowing scarlet leaves in autumn. As a feature, the leaves on this little dwarf overlap one another like shingles on a roof. Mikawa Yatsubusa does well in containers and is perfect as an ornamental tree or displayed in small gardens.

Hydrangea Sundae Fraise is a new variety of hydrangea showcasing a triple treat of colours. It is set to be very popular due to its tolerance of sunny locations in the garden and its amazing displays of flowers! Sundae Fraise blooms prolifically through summer. The mop heads emerge a bright green, fade to white whilst maturing, before blushing a range of pinks as they age over summer and autumn. It is a compact fast growing variety best suited to a sunnier location than traditional mop-top hydrangeas.

Conditions: Part sun/part shade. Tolerant of frost and full shade.
