The English Oak is a large, stately and long-lived variety of oak with a low branching canopy. The oval-shaped, mid-green foliage turns red/brown to yellow just before falling. Small, insignificant, green/pale yellow flowers are produced in spring followed by egg-shaped green acorns which mature to dark brown. To add to its appeal, the silvery grey to black bark develops deep fissures giving it a rugged appearance as it ages. Plant the English Oak as a specimen tree for best effect.
