White Cedar - Melia azedarch - is fast growing tree with a dense rounded crown, reaching 6-8 metres in height and 4-6 metres wide in maturity. These trees are native to northeastern parts of Australia, and one of the few deciduous Australian natives.
Glossy new foliage emerges in spring along with clusters of showy, fragrant, lilac flowers. The blossoms age and become hard yellow to pale orange bead-like fruits that hang on the tree well into autumn after the yellow autumn leaves have fallen.
The fruit can provide abundant food for birdlife, although it is poisonous to humans and some animals.
White Cedar makes a wonderful specimen tree and an equally wonderful avenue tree.
