Larix kaempferi is a majestic deciduous conifer with an open graceful habit and conical shape. It has grey/green cascading leaves with a bluish tinge in Spring/Summer which turn a beautiful shade of gold in Autumn.
The bark is red to grey/brown and is deeply furrowed and scaly.
It is fast growing and can reach 25mH x 10m in ideal conditions. As a species it makes a magnificent feature tree, usually to large for the average garden but a wonderful addition to large gardens, parks and paddocks.
It is also excellently suited for use as a hedge plant, where despite its large height when planted alone, close plant spacing act to bonsai the plant allowing it to be maintained as a 3m hedge
Japanese Larch prefers a deep, moist, fertile, well drained soil. It is frost and coast hardy.
