Eucalytpus youngiana, or Ooldea Mallee, is a small tree of mallee type with several stems. The bark of the lower trunk and branches tends to be rough whilst the bark of the upper branches is smooth. This species is grown for its very large staminous flowers that occur from late winter to early summer. The colour of the flowers vary and can be red, pink or yellow, while the caps and gum-nuts of this species are deeply ribbed and quite unusual. Highly ornamental for more open locations, such as parks and reserves. This species can become very straggly, a heavy prune will rejuvenate the plant and encourage denser growth habit.
Soil: Requires well-drained sandy to sandy loam soils.
Conditions: Full sun. Does not like humid conditions - growing best in areas with hot dry summers. Heat, frost and coastal tolerant.
