Acacia melanoxylon, or Australian Blackwood, is a fast-growing evergreen tree with a dense, spreading crown, dark brown to black bark, and lush olive-green foliage. Small yellow flowers appear in clusters from late winter to early spring, followed by flat brown pods in summer. Australian Blackwood improves soil fertility through nitrogen fixation. The tree attracts birdlife, including honeyeaters and lorikeets. Seeds can be ground for flour or used as a coffee substitute. Commonly planted as a shade or feature tree, Australian Blackwood is also valued for its versatile timber, widely used in furniture making.
