Also known as Bower or River Wattle, Acacia cognata is a graceful Australian native that grows as a small tree or large shrub, depending on conditions. Native to the southern parts of eastern Australia, this attractive wattle forms a naturally dense, rounded shape with arching branches that create a flowing, almost cascading appearance. In spring, it produces small, fluffy, ball-shaped yellow flowers. While not particularly showy, these blooms are beneficial for attracting pollinators and other helpful insects to the garden. Acacia cognata is versatile in the landscape, working well as a feature plant, informal screen, or soft hedge. It can be planted throughout the year, though autumn and spring are ideal for establishing strong root growth. Although it maintains a tidy form naturally, it responds well to pruning and can be shaped to suit different garden styles.
