Vaccinium corymbosum Blue Pearl is a variety of American blueberry that produces beautiful, aromatic, sweet, and slightly acidic blueberries of a good size. The bell-like white flowers arrive in spring, and the harvest is spread from November to January. As with most American blueberries, the foliage turns beautiful red in autumn. Delicious eaten fresh, they can also be cooked as a dessert and are suitable for making jam. Relatively compact, this fruit shrub can be grown in pots. Although self-fertile, Blue Pearl is even more abundant if a few plants of other varieties are planted nearby.

Pyrus communis pear, or Packham Triumph, is an Australian heritage pear bred in Molong, NSW dating back to the late 1800s. It is a delicious fruit with smooth, green to yellow skin and white flesh which is juicy, sweet and rich in flavour. Fragrant, white flowers are borne in spring and the fruit ripens from late autumn to early winter. Packham Triumph will benefit from cross-pollination with a Nijiseiki nashi, rewarding the grower with an abundance of beautiful, sweet dessert pears.

Soil: Prefers light, rich soils with good drainage but will tolerate heavier, clay-rich soils.
Conditions: Full sun. Pears grow best in the cooler areas of Australia as they need a period of chill to fruit to the optimum.

Chanticleer pear trees are a garden favourite for both the visual interest they offer and their rich profusion of flowers. The showy white blossoms appear in clusters in springtime. The fruit follows the flowers, but don’t expect pears if you start growing Chanticleer pears! The “fruit” of Callery Chanticleer pears is brown or russet and the size of a pea. Birds love it and it clings to the branches into winter, helping to feed wildlife when little else is available. Chanticleer (Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’) is a cultivar of the Callery ornamental pear and has a growth habit that is neat and tailored with a slender pyramid shape. Chanticleer pear trees are thornless and grow fairly rapidly. Excellent for sites where lateral space is restricted. Its tough disposition and aesthetic attributes combine to make a wonderfully versatile tree for home gardens or streets and public areas.
