Niobe is a rare, compact protea with creamy feathery flower bracts, touched with black edging, surrounding a dark centre. Niobe flowers from autumn to spring; providing a stunning floral display to the garden during the colder months and supplying food for birds and bees. Plant as a feature, into tubs, shape into a low hedge or mass plant for a stunning effect. As with all proteas, Niobe is a fantastic cut flower. Be sure to use a native soil mix when planting as exotic potting mix or exotic fertiliser will kill them.

Metrosideros collina Little Ewan is a hardy, compact shrub with dark green leaves displaying fiery red new growth and masses of small, bright crimson flowers in spring and summer, attracting birds and bees. It can be grown as a container plant, minimum maintenance low hedge, as a dense foreground shrub, or in general landscaping where very hardy plants are required. Little Ewan is absolutely perfect for those coastal gardens!

The stunning evergreen camellia Something Special bursts forth with masses of semi-double flowers in shades of pinks and creamy whites during cooler months. Something Special has a vigorous, upright growth habit, is long-lived and widely used for hedging, as a feature plant and for topiary and espalier. Camellias are hardy once established and respond well to pruning to maintain a compact growth habit.

Portuguese Laurel is a hardy evergreen shrub or small tree. The dense covering of dark glossy green leaves - lime green when new - provide an ideal backdrop for other plants in the garden. This species is particularly showy in spring when in full flower, with small white, beautifully perfumed flowers. After flowering, reddish-green cherry-like fruits appear, turning dark purple/black as they ripen in late summer or early autumn. With its compact form, Portuguese Laurel is a fantastic hedging/screening plant that can be kept clipped from one to four metres or left to grow into a small spreading tree. It is also great as a large standard. Be mindful that no humans or pets ingest the berries.
