Lavender Meerlo is not your average grey/blue foliage plant with purple blooms! This gorgeous lavender features pale, muted green leaves with creamy serrated edges - creating a striking contrast against the soft pale purple/blue flower stalks. Vitex agnus-castus, or Chaste Tree, is a beautiful deciduous shrub or small tree known for its fragrant, grey-green foliage and spectacular spikes of lilac-blue flowers in summer. A famous old English plum, Coe’s Golden Drop has clear yellow skin and gorgeous, sweetly-flavoured yellow flesh. It can be kept in the refrigerator for more than a week, which is unusual for plums. Delicious eaten straight off the tree, Golden Drop is great for stewing, pies, pastries and jams. It does need a pollinator to set fruit, such as Green Gage, D’Agen, or Angelina. It will require annual pruning once the foliage has dropped in winter.

Soil: Well-draining, loamy to sandy soil that has a neutral to acidic pH of 6.0 to 6.5.
Conditions: Full sun. Situate the tree so that it is either southerly or easterly facing in a sheltered area. Frost tolerant.

Native to the rainforests of South America, philodendron spp. Shangri La is an eye-catching houseplant that offers a tropical atmosphere to any home. It has big, deeply divided lacy leaves, which grow on tall, sturdy stems developing dense, bushy, compact forms. The foliage features rough edges and lime-green rib-veins that add different foliage textures to the plant. Despite its non-native looks and tropical origin, the Shangri la is very easy to grow and it is recommended to feed them at least once a month in the growing season. Consider Shangri La for your office too, with studies showing that plants in the workplace can help reduce stress and improve job satisfaction!

Soil: Use a good quality potting mix in a pot that has good drainage holes or sit the plain plastic pot inside a decorative container. It's important not to let water accumulate at the base of the container.
Conditions: Find a warm, brightly lit spot that is protected from direct sunlight and draughts. Shangri La can also be grown outdoors in a frost-free, protected shady spot in pots and garden beds.

Ophiopogon japonicus is an ornamental green mondo grass displaying dense tufts of arching, strappy leaves. Contrasting white flowers in summer are followed by black berries. Perfectly suited to rockeries and along the edges of paths as it is very hardy - or as a lawn alternative for light traffic areas. This variety of mondo grass is tough and durable - perfect for adding texture to the garden.

Conditions: Full sun to part sun. Frost, wind, drought and coastal hardy.

Hicks Fancy is a delicious mulberry tree ideal for the home garden due to its smaller size. Hicks Fancy is a deciduous tree losing its leaves for winter and providing great shade in summer with its lush green foliage. The self-pollinating tree fruits in October-November, producing plump juicy, black mulberries that burst with a sweet explosion. Hicks Fancy are favourites for making jams, desserts and juices. Water regularly until the tree is established.

A classic ornamental grass, Miscanthus sinensis Variegatus features beautiful, bi-coloured leaves. Rich cream-coloured stripes on deep green run the length of the foliage, giving this plant a white appearance from a distance. Variegatus grows in a traditional arching shape with red-tinted blooms lasting most of the season. It is tall enough to act as a screen or background plant, but it is also a good size for a border or bright specimen. Plant it in masses for drama or use it to cover a large landscape area.
