 Eriobotrya japonica Loquat is a hardy, evergreen shrub or small-to-medium sized tree valued for both its ornamental appeal and delicious fruit. It features large, bold leaves and a naturally spreading crown that provides cool, deep shade and excellent foliage contrast in the garden. They are ideal for home gardens, including smaller spaces, and can be used as an informal screening plant. Light pruning is well tolerated to maintain shape, although unpruned trees will develop a broad, spreading canopy over time. In spring to early summer, loquats produce clusters of edible fruit resembling small apricots. The fruit has a mild, sweet-tangy flavour often compared to a blend of peach and mango, making it a favourite for fresh eating, preserves, and desserts.
