Cydonia oblonga Smyrna is a classic Turkish quince variety valued for both its ornamental beauty and reliable fruit production. This hardy, deciduous tree features lush dark green foliage and produces masses of delicate pink-white blossoms in spring, creating an attractive seasonal display before fruiting. Renowned for its high productivity, Smyrna yields large, golden-yellow, pear-shaped fruit with a rich, sweet fragrance. The pale yellow flesh is firm and highly aromatic, but like most quinces, it is too hard and tart to eat raw. Once cooked, however, the fruit transforms into a beautifully soft texture with a deep, sweet flavour, making it ideal for jams, jellies, pastes, chutneys, sauces, and even cider. This variety is self-pollinating, making it an easy and dependable choice for home gardeners.

Soil: Most well-drained soils.
Conditions: Full sun to part shade. Tolerates frost and drought though it needs protection during hot dry winds to avoid the loss of fruit.
