The Brocade Maple is a dwarf size Japanese Maple with a superb spreading habit. Its beautiful lace-leaf foliage is the focal feature of this tree. New growth on Brocade is a bright orange-red, maturing to dark red. The dark red matures to red-green, with orange-red new growth reappearing in summer. In autumn Brocade changes its foliage to bright orange-red. For a more dramatic effect, consider staking Brocade to a height of 90–120 cm, allowing the branches to cascade downward and form a lush carpet at its base. A deciduous weeping shrub, Acer palmatum dissectum Atropurpureum is a form of Japanese Maple. It is noted for its ferny, lace-like foliage that emerges purple-red in spring, matures to green with purple tints in summer and finally turns a showy orange-red in autumn. The Acer Palmatum dissectum Filigree Rouge is a stunning ornamental tree displaying delicate, lacy foliage. One of the more fascinating Japanese maples, Acer Palmatum Dissectum Germaines Gyration, with its natural twisting growth habit, makes an outstanding small specimen tree. It is the twisting or spiralling growth habit that makes this such a good feature tree. The foliage is light green from spring through summer, turning to shades of yellow to orange in autumn. Germaines Gyration can be used in the garden border as part of mixed planting and is suited to growing in containers in its formative stages although due to the eventual spread, the garden is the place for this maple.

Soil: Dig over the soil well before planting, add some well-rotted compost and some aged cow manure. Plant and stake, water in well with a liquid seaweed fertiliser and mulch with a fine pine bark mulch.

Acer palmatum Seiryu is the only upright-growing cultivar in the Dissectum Group of Japanese maples.
