Banksia serrata

Banksia serrata, or Saw or Old Man Banksia, is a character-filled small to medium-sized tree with leathery serrated leaves and large, creamy yellow to brown flowers in summer. The flowers are followed by interesting pods, and the bark is quite lumpy - both of which helped inspire May Gibbs' Big Bad Banksia man. The plant can vary in size depending on the soil and its exposure. Banksia serrata attracts nectar-loving birds and other wildlife to the garden, and black cockatoos like feeding on the developing cones.

Soil: Prefers a deep sandy soil that is moderately fertile with a pH range of 5.5 to 7.0
Conditions: Full sun to semi-shade. It is drought, salt and frost tolerant and fire-resistant.
