Ground Covers

A superb, hardy, evergreen Australian native shrub, the Gin Gin Gem is a low, dense grevillea with vibrant lime foliage and small spider-type red and cream flowers that attract honey bees and small nectar-feeding birds. It makes an ideal groundcover for embankments and rockeries and brings bright splashes of colour to the garden from late autumn through winter and spring. Prune lightly after flowering for an even more dense habit, and feed in spring.

Myoporum insulare Prostrate, or Boobialla (also known as Native Juniper or Coastal Boobialla), is a native, fruit-bearing groundcover. This species produces small white flowers as the weather heats up - in warmer areas of Australia, it’s not unusual to experience a long flowering season - with fruit following shortly after. As summer ends, Boobialla produces small, round, purple fruits with an astringent sweetness. They’re great for jams, jellies and preserves. Even when creeping, it develops a dense, bushy appearance, making it ideal for rockeries, filling gaps between plants, or suppressing weeds. Boobialla is a hardy plant that adapts to a wide range of climates. In colder areas it may lose some of its lustre and drop leaves when exposed to frost, but it usually recovers quickly in spring after a light prune.

A very popular Australian native, Scaevola Mauve Clusters put on a terrific flower show from spring to autumn. The fast-growing shrub features clusters of fan-shaped, periwinkle purple flowers complementing the lush, bright green foliage. It looks incredible planted around the house in hanging baskets or as a ground cover and landscapes needing a pop of colour. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain a tidy appearance, and feed with a slow-release native fertiliser in spring.

Dianella Blaze™ is a compact, heat-tolerant plant known for its striking deep purple foliage that persists most of the year, making it a standout alternative to Cordylines and Phormiums.
