The Kanzan Japanese Flowering Cherry is a stunning ornamental tree originating from Japan and is also known as Sekiyama. Celebrated for its spectacular spring display, the tree produces an abundance of rich pink, double flowers that hang gracefully in large pendant clusters, creating a breathtaking feature in the garden. After flowering, the decorative foliage begins to emerge. The leaves appear creased with finely toothed edges and initially open in attractive bronze tones before gradually maturing to a deep green through the warmer months. As the seasons change, the tree provides another show of colour in autumn when the foliage turns to glowing shades of burnished red, orange and hints of yellow. With its elegant vase-shaped form and striking seasonal interest, Kanzan is widely planted as an ornamental feature tree. The deciduous Forest Pansy is an elegant and spectacularly colourful small tree attracting birds, butterflies and bees to the garden. It has bold heart-shaped leaves that open up in spring to a brilliant, eye-catching reddish-purple shade with a velvety-satin appearance. The foliage deepens to purple-black and fades to purple-green in summer. In autumn, Forest Pansy showcases leaves of brilliant yellow to orange. The branches have a distinctive, smooth dark brown wood that provides a contrast with the blossom-like pink flowers that are borne before the re-emergence of reddish-purple leaves in spring. Teucrium fruticans, or the Shrubby Germander, has a wide, sprawling habit with woolly, whitish stems and aromatic, grey-green leaves. Light blue-lilac flowers are borne in spring on terminal spikes in late spring and summer. Grows naturally into an arching bush but can be pruned lightly after flowering to maintain shape if required. Plant in borders, cottage and coastal gardens.
