Acmena smithii Firescreen is an attractive, fast-growing native shrub/small tree. Firescreen has a dense growth habit and stunning glossy copper red new growth that fades to bronze. The lilly pilly foliage is complete down to ground level making this an ideal choice for a formal hedge and topiary. Perfect for hedges, screening and specimen planting.

Soil: Well-drained soil. Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established.
Conditions: Sunny position. Drought and frost-tolerant. Protect from wind and salt spray.
Size: Clip to 1-2m H x 1 m W for a dense manageable hedge, or allow to reach its natural height of approx 4 metres for privacy screening

Acacia spectabilis, or Mudgee Wattle, is an ornamental wattle with clear, bright golden yellow ball-shaped flowers in spring. It is not only the beautiful golden flowers that make this a standout - the silvery grey trunk and ferny, grey-green foliage add to the appeal. Prune after flowering to shape to a shade tree or for a more bushy plant.

Soil: Well-drained soil, although it is tolerant of most soil types.

Acacia pendula, known as the Weeping Myall or Boree Wattle, is an incredibly hardy and long-lived wattle from the Fabaceae family. With pendulous spreading branches and small yellow flowers in winter, the beautiful silvery-grey slender foliage hangs down from the branches making it perfect as a medium-sized shade tree in the garden. Underpruning will add to its whimsical nature although it will naturally take on a weeping form. A park bench beneath the tree and some other smaller native varieties planted around it would make for a sophisticated native garden. It is an excellent choice as a street tree or an avenue planting.

Soil: Thrives in free-draining native soil but has traditionally been found growing well in clay and loam soils.
Conditions: Full sun. Both drought and frost-tolerant, minimal watering once established.

Acacia iteaphylla, or Flinders Range Wattle, is a hardy ornamental shrub recommended for its form and foliage. It is used as a background plant in larger mixed plantings or grouped as a screen, shelter or wind-break in wider verges, and parks. As with all wattles, the acacia attracts native birds and insects. The wattle is successfully used for soil stabilisation, and it is recommended to prune after flowering.

Soil: Tolerates heavy clays to calcareous soils but requires good drainage.
Conditions: Full sun to part shade. Coastal, drought, salt and wind tolerant.
