Citrus limon Lemonicious grows well in a large pot and produces masses of full-sized juicy fruit. Growing into an attractive small tree, Lemonicious produces fragrant creamy white flowers with a strong citrus fragrance and the attractive large green leaves exude a citrus fragrance when crushed. If growing in a pots ensure a good quality potting mix is used and the plant does not endure dry periods during the warmer months as the quality of the fruit will be affected. Fertilise regularly using a citrus fertiliser, following the manufacturers recommendations.

The Washington Navel is a popular backyard orange grown in Australia. This small to medium tree forms a rounded shape with glossy leaves and small, richly scented white flowers. The sweet, seedless orange matures in early winter; it is easy to peel and holds on the tree for several months. This tree is perfect for the home orchard supplying tasty, seedless oranges in mid-winter. In some coastal areas, excessive summer fruit drop results in poor harvests so Washington Navel is a better choice for inland gardeners.

Citrus paradisi Ruby Grapefruit has medium-sized seedless fruit, a smooth thin peel, and dark red flesh that offers excellent quality. A grapefruit tree is an easy-care and long-lived backyard tree that is highly valued for its productivity. A mature grapefruit tree can produce over 90 kilos of juicy, sweet-tart, crimson fruit, and with the Ruby variety, the fruit becomes even sweeter as it remains on the tree. To ensure the best growth and fruit set, grapefruit trees require full sun, and a planting location that receives at least eight hours of direct sunlight per day is ideal. With its productivity, delicious fruit, and easy care, a grapefruit tree is a great choice for any backyard. Grafted Ruby Grapefruit trees typically grow to 0.9m to 1.3m.
A cold-hardy deciduous citrus shrub, Poncirus trifoliata Flying Dragon’ is as ornamental as it is practical. This distinctive dwarf form features curving, contorted stems and dramatic twisted thorns — making it ideal for use as a striking specimen plant or an impenetrable security hedge.
In spring, it bears small, lightly scented white blossoms, followed by fuzzy, orange-yellow fruit about the size of a ping pong ball. The fruit is filled with seeds and yields around 20% juice. Though the juice is sour, it makes an excellent flavouring, while the peel — bitter yet aromatic — is prized for marmalades and candied peel. Rich in natural pectin, it requires no added gelling agent for jellies. Even small trees can produce hundreds of fruit each season. Its trifoliate green leaves turn a brilliant orange in autumn before dropping to reveal the sculptural, twisted branches that make this tree so unique. The slow-growing Flying Dragon is ideal as a security barrier or privacy hedge, ornamental feature tree, bonsai subject or garden accent. Prune hard to maintain hedge height and density, or selectively prune to showcase its striking, contorted stems.
Soil: Well-drained soil.
Conditions: Full sun. Cold tolerant as it will survive extended periods of snow. Heat and coastal tolerant.

Rainforest Pearl is a cultivar in the Citrus Gems range, grafted to make the plants hardier and tolerant of frost and dry conditions. An evergreen tree with deep green, rounded foliage and thorny stems, Rainforest Pearl displays pale white-pink flowers in summer, followed by aromatic, finger-shaped fruits tinged green-red. Rainforest Pearl will begin to ripen but not fully on the tree. Once picked, leave the fruit for five to ten days to completely ripen. Inside the fruits are filled with small pearls of tangy juice, which have a wonderful texture and flavour and are perfect for seafood, Asian cooking and cocktails. As the tree has a slight weeping habit, it can be pruned to shape. Trees will begin to produce fruit from the second autumn of planting.
Soil: Plant in composted, well-draining soil. Mulch in spring and keep the soil moist in summer.
Conditions: It will do best in a warm, sheltered spot and can do well in dappled shade though will thrive in full sun. Tolerant of frost and dry conditions.
