Picea abies, or the Norway Spruce, is a dense, hardy conifer with a conical habit of spirally arranged branches which turn upwards at the tips. It is at its best in spring as the new, soft, bright green foliage unfurls. Norway Spruce produces tubular, scaled cones, sharply pointed needles and reddish-brown scaly bark. This species makes a beautiful feature tree, potted specimen (and Christmas tree in early years), paddock specimen, windbreak, screen or large hedge. Fertilise the tree in spring with a well-balanced, slow-release formulation.

Soil: Well drained, slightly acid loam. Mulch well and do not allow it to dry out as it can cause serious and unrepairable leaf damage
Conditions: Full sun to part shade. This species is particularly hardy, pest resistant, and withstands strong winds, extreme cold, and drought.
Size: Height 35-55m x width 8m
