Lilly Pilly

Syzygium Toffee Apple is a striking Australian native shrub renowned for its colourful foliage and naturally dense, compact growth habit. Fresh new growth emerges in rich burgundy and deep red tones, reminiscent of a classic toffee apple, before gradually maturing to glossy deep green. The vibrant foliage display is at its most spectacular in spring, although regular pruning will encourage repeated flushes of colourful new growth throughout the year. Evergreen, hardy, and easy to maintain, Syzygium Toffee Apple is an excellent choice for hedging, screening, topiary, feature planting, and container growing.

Syzygium Hinterland Gold is a fast-growing, dense lilly pilly with mid-sized glossy green leaves that develop a lovely coppery hue in the new growth. The lilly pilly produces fluffy flowers in the summer months, followed by red-purple berries. Hinterland Gold is ideal as a privacy screen, hedge and topiary plant, and responds well to pruning. Mulch well to cut down weed problems, and feed with a good all-purpose fertiliser in warm months.

Perfect for noise reduction and privacy screening in urban environments, Waterhousea Sweeper is a superb evergreen tree distinguished by its graceful weeping habit and lush, glossy, rippled foliage in vibrant lime-green tones. This variety can be enjoyed as a striking tall feature tree or maintained as a dense hedge when clipped to around 5 metres. In summer, it bears large clusters of white flowers, adding seasonal interest and attracting pollinators. Its dense canopy makes it excellent for large-scale screening, street planting, or softening the look of built-up, concrete surroundings. Ideal as a street tree, large screen, or hedge. Sweeper is not suitable for courtyards or small gardens.

Soil: Grows well in both well-drained and heavier clay loams.
Conditions: Full sun to part shade. Avoid hot, dry, or exposed inland sites.

Syzygium australe Up and Away is an attractive, cultivated variety prized for its elegant, upright form and refined foliage. This versatile lilly pilly, native to eastern Australia, features lush green leaves complemented by clusters of white flowers that appear in the warmer months. These are followed by dark pink, edible fruits that add seasonal interest. Its naturally narrow, vertical habit makes Up and Away an excellent choice for creating height in the landscape, whether used as a standalone feature or clipped into a tidy hedge. For optimal performance, apply a balanced fertiliser in spring to encourage fresh growth and overall plant vigour.

Syzygium Big Red is a dense lilly pilly with large, glossy leaves with gorgeous dark crimson new growth which contrasts beautifully with the mature green leaves. White summer flowers are followed by edible fruit. A great feature, screen, hedge or topiary plant that can be grown in large pots. Big Red responds very well to pruning making it an excellent plant for hedging and screening in residential situations. Mulch well to keep down weeds and conserve soil moisture.
