Syringa intermedia Blue Hyacinth is a small to medium deciduous shrub displaying purple-pink buds that open to attractive soft mauve-blue, single flowers in spring. A hybrid between Syringa vulgaris and Syringa oblata, this deciduous shrub flowers approximately one to two weeks earlier than common lilacs, bringing colour and scent to the garden in early to mid-spring. Its abundant flower clusters are conical and upright, with cool-toned, single florets that appear nearly blue in certain light, especially during cooler temperatures. The long-lived ornamental shrub has green heart-shaped leaves that may turn bronze in autumn. It makes a beautiful specimen shrub, informal screen, or fragrant addition to a spring border.

Soil: Well-drained soil. They dislike waterlogged conditions.
Conditions: Full sun to part shade. Cold hardy.
