Hydrangea Hercules is a stunning, hardy hydrangea with large, conical flower heads that transform from creamy white to soft pink as they mature. It's so pretty, it almost seems impossible that Hydrangea macrophylla Mars exists! Each floret on the full mophead blooms is lushly saturated with deep pink or purple-blue, outlined by a white edge that makes it look like something out of a fairytale. The foliage is very dark green and deeply ribbed, completing the picture-perfect look. A classic choice for including in gardens and landscaping, Mars also makes a nice choice for low hedges and containers. 

Soil: Well-drained, loamy soil. The soil must be alkaline to produce continuous pink flowers, and acidic to produce blue. To increase alkalinity, add garden lime.
Conditions: Hydrangeas do not like hot, direct sunlight so plant with morning sunlight and partial shade in the later parts of the day. Frost and coastal tolerant.

An extremely attractive new introduction, Cercis Merlot is a fantastic small tree that shows off rich purple foliage and an improved branch structure than other varieties of this popular and showy family of trees. Clusters of bright pink flowers smother the bare stems in early spring followed by large and glossy heart-shaped foliage in a rich purple to plum colouring in the summer months, aging to brilliant yellow and orange tonings in autumn. Foliage colour will be at its best in plants grown in full sun. Cercis Merlot is highly adaptable and is more tolerant of warmer climates than many other Cercis forms and prefers deep, well-drained soil and a position in full sun or partial shade.

The deciduous Forest Pansy is an elegant and spectacularly colourful small tree attracting birds, butterflies and bees to the garden. It has bold heart-shaped leaves that open up in spring to a brilliant, eye-catching reddish-purple shade with a velvety-satin appearance. The foliage deepens to purple-black and fades to purple-green in summer. In autumn, Forest Pansy showcases leaves of brilliant yellow to orange. The branches have a distinctive, smooth dark brown wood that provides a contrast with the blossom-like pink flowers that are borne before the re-emergence of reddish-purple leaves in spring.
