Pachysandra terminalis, commonly known as Japanese Spurge, is a hardy, evergreen groundcover from the boxwood family native to Japan and China. Widely valued in landscaping, it forms dense, weed-suppressing mats of glossy green foliage that provide year-round cover. In late winter to early spring, short spikes of small, white, fragrant flowers rise above the leaves, offering an early food source for bees. Pachysandra is ideal for areas where other plants may struggle, such as under trees or in woodland-style gardens. Its dense growth also helps with erosion control. Once established, it is low-maintenance and long-lived, needing little care beyond occasional trimming.
