Philadelphus x. virginalis Mock Orange
$45.00
Philadelphus virginus, or Mock Orange, is a beautiful, upright deciduous shrub prized for its exquisite fragrance and classic white blooms. In late spring to early summer, it produces upright sprays of large, double white flowers up to 5 cm across, filling the garden with a rich orange blossom perfume—especially noticeable on warm summer evenings. Through summer, the deep green foliage forms an elegant backdrop to the fragrant, slightly pendant blooms, which are excellent for picking and bring one of the finest scents of all Philadelphus varieties indoors. In autumn, the foliage turns a soft buttery yellow before falling, leaving the plant dormant through winter. Mock Orange has a naturally neat, upright habit with gently arching branches, making it ideal for borders, hedging, or as a standout feature shrub. Flowers are borne on one-year-old wood, so pruning is best done in late summer immediately after flowering to encourage strong new growth and abundant blooms the following season.
