Ruscus hypoglossum
$24.00
Ruscus hypoglossum, commonly known as Spineless Butcher’s Broom, Mouse Thorn or Horse Tongue Lily, is a distinctive evergreen perennial prized for its unusual foliage and exceptional tolerance of dry shade. Forming dense clumps, it features dark green, flattened stems that resemble leaves, while the true leaves are tiny structures found at the centre of each stem. Small greenish-purple flowers emerge from these centres, followed by attractive red berries that add seasonal interest. One of the best plants for difficult shaded positions, Ruscus hypoglossum thrives beneath established trees and in areas where many other plants struggle. Its architectural foliage provides year-round structure and makes an excellent backdrop in woodland gardens, shaded borders and mass plantings. The long-lasting stems are also highly valued in floral arrangements, where their deep green colour and unique form add texture and interest.
