Rubus probus Native Raspberry
$42.00
Rubus probus, commonly called Native Raspberry or Atherton Raspberry, is a spreading evergreen perennial shrub that produces bright red bush-tucker berries with a bold raspberry flavour. The plant has prickly leaves about 8 cm long and produces delicate white five-petalled flowers through much of the year. These flowers are followed by large raspberry-like fruit up to around 25 mm in size. The berries are bright red and slightly larger than common raspberries, with a sharper, more intense berry flavour. Atherton Raspberry usually fruits through summer and autumn, though in warmer parts of Australia it can produce berries almost year-round. The fruit is ready to pick when it comes away easily from the plant with a gentle touch. Native raspberries are vigorous growers and can spread readily if left unchecked. Growing them in a container is a good way to keep them contained, while planting them in the ground suits larger gardens or properties where they have room to spread. They prefer a sunny position and respond very well to pruning, which helps keep the plant to a manageable size and encourages healthy new growth.
