Syzygium australe Straight and Narrow is a very slender, semi-compact Australian native with a naturally upright, columnar habit. Its dense, tight foliage emerges in rich warm red tones before maturing to glossy green, creating year-round visual interest. In spring and summer, clusters of soft white flowers appear, followed by attractive pink to red fruit that add further ornamental appeal. This elegant lilly pilly provides a native alternative to Italian cypress or pencil pine, making it ideal for narrow spaces where height and structure are desired without excessive width. It is particularly well suited to hedging, screening, feature planting, and large pots or containers. Tip prune while the plant is young to encourage dense foliage growth. Once established, prune yearly or as required to maintain its neat, upright form.

Scleranthus biflorus Cushion Bush is a distinctive, low-growing perennial valued for its bright green, moss-like foliage and naturally sculptural form. It forms dense, rounded cushions that spread across the ground, often moulding beautifully around rocks and hard surfaces to create a soft, organic look. An excellent feature plant, Cushion Bush is ideal for rockeries, between stepping stones, or as a decorative addition to pots. It pairs well with contrasting foliage plants but is equally appealing displayed on its own as a neat, textural accent. It can also be used as a lawn substitute in low-traffic areas, providing a lush, carpet-like appearance—though it is best suited for visual effect rather than regular foot traffic.

Brachyscome White Bliss is a gorgeous native ground cover with fine, delicate green foliage. White daisy-like flowers appear in spring, and sporadically throughout the year. It is attractive in terraces and embankments and perfect for rockeries, pots and hanging baskets. Brachyscome makes a great soil stabiliser as it is quite hardy and very easy to grow.

The winter flowering daphne is Daphne Odora, a fragrant low-growing plant and the most popular of all daphnes. Both pink and white flowering varieties are available, and this is regarded as the best winter flowering shrub of all. It's rosy/pink buds open to reveal splendid, waxy, white to pink to purple flowers that have a heavenly fragrance. They grow well in the garden and can also be grown in pots. This plant hates root disturbance so choose the spot carefully and plant it young. Feed with a light sprinkling of blood and bone every two or three months in the growing/flowering season.

Soil: Daphne like a humus-rich, well-drained, acidic soil. If you have heavy clay soil, add compost or bark before planting to help with drainage.
Conditions: Full sun to light shade that has protection from the hot afternoon sun. Best in cool to temperate climates - frost tender.
