The Wollemi pine is one of the world’s oldest and rarest trees. Only 46 adult trees and 43 juveniles remain in the wild. Belonging to a 200 million year-old plant family, this critically endangered Australian species is considered a global treasure.
The rare nature of the Wollemi Pine has seen it listed as endangered. The two sites that the trees grow in are located between altitudes of 670 - 780 m in a deep, shaded sandstone gorge.
Conditions: Wollemi Pines can be grown outdoors in most climates of Australia. The Wollemi Pine can handle frosty conditions and in the wild occasionally has to cope with snowfalls.
Soil: Sandy soil with good drainage is recommended. Be wary of waterlogged soil, either through over watering or poor drainage. Watering should be increased in the summer months especially when the tree breaks (opens it new leaves).
Size: 40m H with trunk diameter of 1m in the Wild.
