Tibouchina lepidota Alstonville is a small tree or large shrub with thick, woody, branching stems and rippled, lance-shaped leaves that are paler underneath. In late summer and autumn, the leaves are almost hidden by the profuse, buttercup-shaped, deep rose-purple flowers. A heavy prune every few years will encourage vigour and keep it tight. Suited for large gardens, public spaces like parks, golf courses and street plantings.
