Known as Elkhorn due to the leaves looking a lot like antlers, the Bifurcatum Platycerium is a striking plant that can become a beautiful focal feature in the home. Mature plants need to be hung on a vertical wall, usually mounted to a board or bracket so they can grow and droop over as they do in the wild. Water the Elkhorn sparingly and feed monthly applications of a diluted balanced fertilizer during spring and summer. In the cooler months, every second month did suffice.
Soil: When securing to board, use peat, sphagnum moss or coconut coir. Create a well-draining soil mix with a combination of either sand, orchid bark or perlite to create air pockets to help drainage.
Conditions: Light shade to heavy shade. Keep moist and protect from frost.
Size: Height 1-2m x width 1-2m
