Physalis peruviana Cape Gooseberry is indigenous to South America, but was cultivated in South Africa in the region of the Cape of Good Hope during the 19th century, imparting the common name, Cape Gooseberry. The Cape Gooseberry bears small orange fruit similar in size and shape to a cherry tomato. The fruit is covered in a papery husk and has a pleasant unique flavour of a tomato-pineapple-like blend. Cape Gooseberry can be eaten raw, used in salads, desserts, as flavouring, and in jams and jellies
