Avocado Reed, Persea americana, is a perfectly round large fruit with bright glossy green, thick skin. This variety will bear fruit - August to December - at an early age making it an excellent avocado for the home gardener. Reed avocados have a mild to rich flavour and good storing ability once cut and placed in the fridge. Reed is an ‘A’ type flowering variety; one variety is sufficient to produce enough fruit for the home garden in cooler climates however, in warmer climates, planting a Bacon avocado as a second tree will ensure a good harvest.
