Boobialla, also known as Native Juniper or Coastal Boobialla, is a native, salt-tolerant fruiting shrub. The name "Boobialla" is believed to have originated from an Aboriginal Tasmanian language and was initially used to describe a different species. Today, it commonly refers to several species within the Myoporum genus. As summer ends, Boobialla produces smooth, round, purple fruits up to 1 cm in diameter. While these berries are excellent for making jams, jellies, and preserves with an astringent sweetness fresh off the branch. The shrub's aromatic, juniper-like qualities make it an exciting local botanical for essential oils and gin production.
