Inga edulis, commonly known as Ice Cream Bean, is a fast-growing evergreen tree native to South America. It forms a broad and dense spreading canopy with broad, leathery, dark green leaves. The edible long pod fruits have sweet white, translucent, jelly-like pulp that tastes like ice cream - hence the name. The plant is also planted as shade tree in coffee and cacao plantations. The wood, moderately hard and very durable, is used for making packing cases and piles.

Soil: Flourishes in soils of all types within an extended pH range of 4-8. It can handle some waterlogging.
Conditions: Full sun.
Size: Height 20-30m x width 8-10m
