Hibiscus insularis originates from Phillip Island and has been under threat in its natural environment to the point of being declared rare and endangered. This rare native hibiscus produces large pale yellow flowers that change colour as they age to a wine-coloured red. The growth pattern of the Philip Island hibiscus creates a low, domed shape of neatly layered branches and it can be pruned into a dense hedge. Fertilise once a year with a balanced, Australian native formula.
