A deciduous, shrubby dwarf cultivar of Catalpa, Catalpa bignonioides "Nana" grows to 1.2m but is most often grafted onto a tall stemmed rootstock of Catalpa bignonioides. This grafted form of the Indian Bean Tree - as it is known - has slow-growing, dense branches forming a rounded ball of large mid-green heart-shaped leaves that turn yellow in autumn. Nana rarely flowers though long, bean-like seed pods may be produced. Popular as a feature or for planting in streets, courtyards, and other paved areas
Soil: well-drained and well-worked soil.
Conditions: Full sun. Protect from strong winds as branches are quite brittle. Highly tolerant of urban pollution. Frost and drought tolerant.
Size: Height 1.2m x width 1m
