Calliandra haematocephala, or Red Pom Pom, is a tall, attractive shrub with arching branches and a slightly spreading habit. The flower heads are both spectacular and slightly fragrant and consist of thousands of red stamens that stand perfectly erect to make an orb. The oblong-shaped, glossy foliage emerges as a bronze colour turning to mid-green upon maturity. The leaves have an unusual feature - they fold up at night! Ideal for use in borders and shrubberies and as a specimen plant. A light trim after flowering will keep it dense, neat and tidy.
