Berzelia lanuginosa, or Buttonbush, is an upright, clumping shrub with a rounded crown and soft spreading, deep green foliage. When the foliage catches a light breeze, it makes a fabulous show with its long, slender branches and soft foliage. From mid-winter to late spring, it produces clusters of spectacular creamy white pompom flowers at the stem tips that turn into attractive decorative, tan-brown seedheads. Grow in shrubberies as a backgrounder or as a low screen. They thrive in large tubs and attract birds and butterflies to your garden. Suitable as fresh-cut flowers and the dried seed heads are popular for flower arrangements. Trim off seed heads to promote further blooming.
Soil: Buttonbush will grow in the boggy ground but does better in well-drained, humus-rich, slightly acid soils.
Conditions: Full sun. Moderately frost (to -5C) and drought tolerant.
Size: Height 2m x width 1.5m
