Banksia baxteri is a medium to dense native shrub with unusual, alternate fan-shaped leaves with triangular lobes that start rusty brown and mature to green. Unlike most banksia flowers that occur as cylindrical spikes, the Birds Nest banksia is unique with its yellow-green, hemispherical terminal heads of 4 cm long by 8.5 cm wide. One shrub can produce around 200 flowers and thus is sought after for cut flowers. Ideal as a hedge or screen.
