Taxus baccata, commonly called English Yew or Common Yew, is a long-lived, evergreen, conical tree that is native to Europe, southwestern Asia and northern Africa. Lustrous, flat-needled, dark green foliage is attractive year-round with young shoots emerging light green. The male plant yields scaly cones and the female yields poisonous scarlet berries.
It is much prized for topiary and is perfect for classic, formal gardens or dense hedging - but be warned - it is not a fast grower. Keep well-clipped to look its best.
Note: Toxic to dogs, cats, horses and humans.
Soil: Will tolerate most soils but likes a well-drained loam.
Conditions: Comfortable in any position in the garden. Once established will put up with harsh conditions, including drought.
Size: Height 15m x width 2.5m width
