Platanus-x-hispanica, (sometimes referred to as Platanus acerifolius) or London Plane Tree, is an impressive ornamental specimen with generously large, bright green foliage resembling maple leaves. A great feature of the tree is its bark which is a smooth cream colour attractively blotched with grey and brown. It is deciduous and a fine sight in autumn as the leaves turn to gold and red. It also features green to grey and cream flaking bark, making it a good sight even in winter. If you plant one then expect to wait around 30 years to see it at its best and reaching full height around 40-50 years. Commonly planted as a street tree and in avenues because of its tolerance to heat and pollution.
