Banksia formosa, also known as dryandra formosa, is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with narrow, saw-toothed foliage - deep green above and white-felted on the undersides. In spring, small buds appear at the stem tips. Within each bud are hundreds of small yellow, orange or brown-yellow flowers pressed together. As they open, the blooms assume more of a pin-cushion look, with the long styles jutting outward. Banksia formosa attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Prune to encourage a more dense habit.
