Kirin kurume azalea has masses of small, dusky musk-pink flowers in winter and spring. It has a dense, compact, round form with a slow to moderate growth rate. Kirin works well mass planted under trees or as a specimen plant, potted in courtyards, entertaining areas or to frame an entrance. Kurumes are often used in Japanese-style gardens where they are clipped into gorgeous flowering mounds. Prune after flowering to maintain a compact shape, mulch well during extended dry periods and fertilise with an Azalea-specific or a complete organic fertiliser in spring and late summer.
