Paulownia tomentosa or the Empress Tree is a majestic deciduous tree with large, dark green, heart-shaped leaves that are covered in hairs. It is the flowers, however, that make this tree absolutely charming. A profusion of tubular, foxglove-like flowers in pink/lilac/yellow, borne on long panicles, creates quite a spectacular sight in spring. This is a very hardy tree that provides excellent shade and being deciduous, will provide extra light in winter
Paulownia tomentosa will grow in most soils, but for best results grow in full sun or dappled shade in a sheltered spot in moist, well-drained soil.
Grows to a height of 12m and width of 8m.
